Pixar artist, Josh Cooley, is creating a compilation of his adult versions of Golden Books, called Movies R Fun. The book will have illustrations of famous movie scenes that are definitely not kid-friendly. Pretty clever, I say.

terrifying i think
I just finished watching Jesus Camp. Man, this movie is terrifying. Its insane how these children have devoted their lives to Jesus, and i really fear ever running into someone like this. These people are pretty much assholes "warriors for the lord" or whatnot-i mean, they're just assholes. This one little girl said she always dreamed of being a manicurist, because she thinks that's the best opportunity for a person to be accepting of the lord. wtf?
Another gem of a scene, the sermon about how Harry Potter is evil, and in biblical times would have been put to death. Boy oh boy-its frightening. A room full of sobbing shaking children-if i didn't have the sound on I would've been apalled-what are these people doing to make these kids cry? It's gotta be wrong...I'm pretty sure Jesus never was recorded as being such an asshole crazy person. idk, i kind of like imagining him just chillin on a hill, talking to whoever would listen. oh and he looks like Willem DeFoe...
Religion is scary. Children are scary. This is the scariest horror movie I've ever seen! haha

hitchcock's hollywood

Vanity Fair's Hollywood issue has these awesome Hitchcock styled spreads featuring this past year's chosen celebs. This one's my favorite, but the others are pretty good too!

Cloverfield. See it or i'll eat your face!
I spent most of friday, unexcited for this movie, which I was actually glad about. Because when your expectations are low, there is so much more room for being completely blown away!
At first, like people have said, this movie is real hard to watch. Definitely a bit nauseating, I had to look away every so often-but you get used to it. The whole experience is intense. The last movie I saw that was this exciting, frightening, and heart-pounding was probably All Dogs Go to Heaven-But that's because i was 8, and I found that movie seriously disturbing. On many levels. Don't get me started or I'll cry.
But seriously folks. Cloverfield. Do it. My hands were clenched, my jaw was dropped and my mouth was saying "omg". It makes me excited for movies. Because they really stuck to the idea, that this is what an honest account of some randomly chosen people would have gone through in such a situation. Plus i went into it thinking "how can they possibly create any scary monsters these days? We've seen everything!" But i spoke too soon. This monster is seriously terrifying. I'd really like to know the process behind creating a monster like this, where the inspiration comes from, what kind of markers were used in the initial renderings (i lied. i'm not really interested in that second thing, actually).
But anyway. Don't expect questions to be answered at any point of the movie. But do expect to be frighteningly delighted! A+

Missing Cats and Internet Romance
Seriously? why do independant films get to do whatever they want? Will i see this movie? probably now. i'm hoping this dude finds his cat. for the sake of happy endings. I'd like to see this movie as an episode of CSI. What does entertain me though, are the random shots throughout the trailer. shotgunning a beer, covering a toilet seat obsessively with toilet paper. thats cinema gold right there!
But the music is so powerful, isn't it? I bet tons of people will go see this movie because it looks quirky or random or whatever. It makes me feel like its gonna be just as bad as Me and You and Everyone We Know. Which would've 100% sucked if it weren't for this scene. I think this kid should win an award. lots of awards.

My Happiness
The last two movies i've gone to see (not counting Bladerunner-although still and always awesome) were complete greatness. We all know that Juno was the delight of the year, and I need to own this movie immediately. But I saw The Diving Bell and the Butterfly a few days ago, and while right after the movie, I was kinda like "eh" after listing to the soundtrack and then visualizing the scenes and story, I've decided to bump my "eh" to an "oooooo".
But anyway. These soundtracks are ri-motherfuckin-diculously awesome. Get your mitts on them stat! Juno will make you smile for days-chock full of Kimya Dawson, Cat Power, Belle and Sebastian and the like. Diving Bell is totally beautiful-Velvet Underground and my personal new fave song by Ultra Orange & Emmanuelle.

Burgundy is the color of hot water bottles

Kinky Boots-
So a long time ago someone told me I would like this movie. Then my netflix recommended it to me. And I went for it.
This wasn't a bad movie...... it just wasn't that good. The dialog was on par with a Hallmark movie. Remember that haircut movie we saw, and the lady had a tattoo on her head? Blow Dry? It was kinda a lot like that. This guy inherits his family's shoe factory, and in order to save the business he starts making boots for Drag Queens.
The thing is they were obviously trying to make a movie for the gay audience. This is obvious not because of the subject matter, but because the love interest of the movie could be best described as looking like "a bag of buttons". She was this pixie hair cut 13-year-old boy of a woman.
But even worse was the antagonist female role. The woman looked like a bulldog! Her under-bite was under-belivable!
Anyway I'm going to go the way of Kissing Jessica Stein and give this a Fabi-Oh-No. Save yourself the place on your netflix queue and rent Mr.Show instead.
